One of the most frequent questions my couples ask is, “Where should we have our engagement session?!” Truthfully, I love this question because I love having the opportunity to help my couples find the perfect location for their St Louis engagement session!
That being said, I decided that since I’m chatting about this so often with my couples, it was high time to write a blog post with some of my favorite St Louis engagement session ideas!!
Before we dive in, the biggest thing to consider when choosing your engagement session location is this – what type of location feels most like you two as a couple? If you and your partner spend your weekends outdoors exploring – a rooftop engagement session likely isn’t the best fit for y’all! If you love the city and spending a free Friday at your favorite cocktail bar – maybe traipsing through a field isn’t your thing. That is 100% okay!! While location isn’t everything, it absolutely sets the tone for your engagement session, so let’s make sure we find the perfect fit for you & your love! Here are some of my favorite location ideas around the St Louis area!
If you’re looking for an urban, downtown vibe, Laclede’s Landing and/or the rooftop of a parking garage are my go to spots!
If you love beautiful architecture and buildings in your photos, the St. Louis Public Library and Forest Park are such stunning options!
If you’re looking for the perfect blend of architecture and nature, Forest Park & Lafayette Square Park are going to be the perfect fit for you!!
A quick note for Lafayette Square – I typically avoid shooting here in the summer as the light is very dense and green because of all the trees. In my humble opinion, Lafayette shines fall through spring!!
If you love wide open spaces, beautiful lakes, tall pine trees, and golden fields – Busch Wildlife is going to be an amazing fit for you and is one of my favorites!
Last but not least – consider incorporating somewhere unique!
Some of my favorite sessions have taken place at the most unique and random locations – let’s get ice cream, stop by your favorite cocktail bar, brewery, coffee shop, or maybe even your favorite pizza place! You truly can’t go wrong and I love incorporating creative ideas into my engagement sessions around St Louis! My biggest piece of advice when adding a second location to your session is to consider drive time. Typically I recommend locations no further than 10-15 minutes apart to ensure we are able to utilize the best light during your session. For example, if you want to stop by Jeni’s Ice Cream in the Central West End – Forest Park would be a great option as a second location since it’s close by!
