When Christmas, New Year’s, and Valentine’s Day all happen within a two month span – that would be what you call engagement season! ;) Which means spring is full of engagement sessions!! I absolutely adore engagement sessions (check out why I love Engagement Sessions here!) and often receive questions like, “how do I prepare? What do I wear, what can I expect, and how can I get the most out of our engagement session?!” If you’re newly engaged, these tips will help as you prepare to make memories that you will treasured for decades!
1// Coordinate instead of matching
Long gone are the days of professional photos in blue jeans and white button ups. ;) The whole point of your engagement session is to capture the two of you naturally in this amazing season of your lives! So wear your favorite date night outfit – whatever makes you feel comfortable and cute! You don’t have to look matchy-matchy… you wouldn’t go to dinner that way would you? Wear colors/patterns that pair well together for a more natural look that compliments one another!
2// Don’t be afraid to be bold
In fact – I highly recommend it. Go all out! ;) I absolutely love mixing patterns + textures + layers to give outfits more dimension and depth! Scarves, statement necklaces, pops of color – I’m all about it!
3// Think outside the box
Have you always secretly wanted to wear a flower crown and a tulle skirt?! (I sure have!!) Well now is the time!! This is your excuse to go buy a red dress, get your nails done, and do something FUN! You only get one engagement session – so you might as well make the most of it!! :)
4// Incorporate your passions
Do you love to hike together? Let’s go exploring! Do you end every date with a good cup of coffee? Let’s head to your favorite cafe! Your engagement photos are about you two as a couple and celebrating the beautiful love that you share. Your story is unique and it’s YOURS – so why not let your engagement session reflect that?
5// Enjoy yourselves
As your photographer, I have absolutely everything taken care of. I will pose you and help you look beautiful, draw out natural emotion, and let you know if you something needs to be fixed or adjusted. The biggest way you can help me is to relax and soak up this time with your love. Laugh, cuddle, kiss, and have fun! Enjoy this sweet time – and that joy will be reflected in your images!
Cheers to all you happy couples that are so stoked about love + life + each other! Happy Wednesday, friends!
Much love,
Jessica Lauren
