It’s that time of year again, friends! We are gearing up for a fall full of engagement sessions around here, so what better than a blog post on how to prepare for your engagement session!! The weather is starting to get cooler and the trees will be giving us their incredible show and I couldn’t be more excited! Every single one of my 2017 brides wants their engagement session in the fall – and I don’t blame them one bit! Autumn in Missouri is one of my very favorite parts about living in the Midwest!! I’ve blogged about this topic before here, but I wanted to share a few more tips as you begin to prepare for your engagement session!!
It’s okay to be nervous!! Let’s be honest, initially it can feel awkward to be in front of a camera – I even feel that way and I’m a photographer! But the good news here is that if you don’t know what you’re doing – that’s the best case scenario! I don’t work with professional models, I simply work with couples who love the heck out of each other. :) So if you feel nervous, you are totally normal! But you are going to rock your session – I guarantee it!
Get dressed up! This is your chance to go all out! Ladies, long + flowy dresses and skirts are always so romantic and fun! Consider looking into places like Rent the Runway for something outside of the box and affordable! And always feel free to email me if you aren’t sure about something! I love being a part of the planning process!
Treat yourself! Girls, more than anything I would recommend that you invest in getting your hair and makeup professionally done. You absolutely will not regret it!! Photos have a tendency to wash out your features, and a professional hair and makeup artist will know exactly how to prep you for photos! There are a plethora of makeup artists in the St. Louis area that I adore, so email me if you need any recommendations!
Prepare yourself! More than likely if you’ve booked your wedding with me, you are familiar with my work. But is your groom? Feel free to sit down with your man and show him your favorite engagement sessions here on the blog! This will help him understand what an engagement session typically looks like (and get excited about looking like a rockstar). ;) Laughing photos are my favorite photos… so we are going to have a blast!!
Have fun! Make this into a special memory of an evening you can tell your kiddos about years down the road! With your engagement session, not only are you investing in your moments for now, but for years down the road. These images tell the story of WHO you are as a couple. Twenty, thirty, forty years from now, you will want your children to see Mom and Dad during this sweet season of engagement! There’s something incredibly special and beautiful about this time. So make the most of it! Plan a fun dinner afterwards while you’re all dressed up and enjoy yourselves. Take a break from the wedding planning and remember the reason why you are in the season in the first place. Soak up an evening with your best friend. I promise you won’t regret it!!
This just gets me all the more excited for all the incredible couples I get to photograph this fall!! So excited to have a calendar full of engagement sessions and absolutely can’t wait for every single one!! Happy Monday, friends!
Much love,
Jessica Lauren
